Julen Lopetegui spoke to Sevilla’s official media channels after the club’s Champions League defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
After being officially relieved of his duties, the Basque coach discussed his time at the club.
“The President and Vice President have confirmed that I’m no longer Sevilla coach. It’s been three historic, spectacular years, with silverware and three consecutive qualifications for the Champions League.”
“We haven’t started well this season and they’ve made a decision that I have to accept, even if it’s not to my liking.”
“Simply put, I have to show my gratitude to the people that brought me here: Monchi, the Board, my players, everyone, and our fans, because you have helped me to achieve what we’ve achieved, above all our fans.”
“I’ll never forget the fans singing my name at full time, it will be one of my best memories. The fans are intelligent, they’re the most important part of the club and they know what’s happened in the last three-and-a-bit years.”
“I’ve got mixed emotions, but the main one is that I’m grateful and I don’t want to think about any negative words.”
“My time here means I’ll always have a strong feeling for this club as well as our city, and I’ll take that with my family.”
“As for the match, we were found lacking in both areas. We had chances to score and then we conceded the second and the third, even though we had more intensity in the second half. Being clinical is key.”
