Jude Bellingham scores again as Real Madrid go top

Jude Bellingham is Real Madrid’s top scorer this season. Seven of the club’s 17 goals in 2023-24 have been scored by the England international, who added to his tally on Saturday night against Girona.

Bellingham has almost scored a goal per game, with seven in eight from his No 10 role with Los Blancos. The 20-year-old has only failed to find the back of the net against Real Sociedad and rivals Atlético Madrid but scored a brace against Almería and five more along the way.

He also popped up with a last-minute winner against Union Berlin in his first Champions League game at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Wednesday’s La Liga win over Las Palmas was the first time he had been rested by Carlo Ancelotti since joining the club. He returned to the starting eleven on Saturday and provided an superb assist for Joselu to score the opener from close range after 17 minutes.

Bellingham scored the third goal of the night to put the game to bed with a fine strike before he was replaced by Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos with 15 minutes to go.

Real Madrid move to the top of the La Liga table with the 3-0 win against Girona and sit on 21 points after eight games, one clear of rivals Barcelona.
