Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this week revealed his take that Arda Güler will ultimately follow the path set out by Blancos icon Luka Modrić, when it comes to his position on the pitch.
Youngster Arda is for his part currently viewed as a player without a defined role in Spain’s capital. Whilst some still consider the Turk a ’10’, others are adamant that his best work comes from a deeper position in the middle of the park.
Heading into the new season, it is therefore somewhat unclear where exactly new boss José Mourinho intends to field Arda in his XI.
Speaking during an exchange with the media ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Espanyol this weekend, Los Blancos’ headmaster was therefore drawn on Arda’s role.
And Mourinho, after first revealing his appreciation for the talents boasted by the 21-year-old, went on to highlight the career of one of the greatest midfielders in the storied history of the Bernabéu:
“I love Arda Güler! He’s a top player. I believe with him it’s going to be like Luka Modrić… in the end he will end up as a number 8 and then as a 6.”
