José Mourinho speaks on possibility of Real Madrid fielding Kylian Mbappé & Carlos Espí as a pairing

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has this week opened up on the subject of a potential striker pairing formed by Blancos pair Kylian Mbappé and Carlos Espí.

This of course comes after the attacking duo combined to secure a last-gasp three points for Los Blancos on Tuesday.

Locked at two goals apiece in a La Liga meeting with Elche in Alicante, Real Madrid introduced summer signing Carlos Espí off the bench, to join Kylian Mbappé in a front two.

As proceedings rolled into injury time, the pair then broke free in behind, allowing the latter to square for Espí to slot home the winner in a 3-2 result.

This marked the young frontman’s 2nd late winner of the season to date.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s fifth win from six to open the La Liga campaign, the aforementioned José Mourinho was therefore drawn on the prospect of Mbappé and Espí joining forces as starters in his XI.

Real’s headmaster, though, was quick to play the idea down, assuring:

“I am happy with Espí; he’s hungry and motivated. Starting him? Carlos knows he has in front of him a player who is not normal… It’s not easy to play Espí together with Mbappé in a 4-4-2 system.”
