Joaquín: “I’m going to miss football a lot.”

Speaking on the TV show El Hormiguero, Real Betis winger Joaquín discussed retiring from the beautiful game.

At the age of 40, this will more than likely be the Spaniard’s last ever season in what has been an exceptional career.

“I’ve thought about it, and not seeing my teammates, not smelling the grass, the wet boots… No matter how many things you have to do and how much you have planned for the future, I think that in the end, I’m going to miss it a lot,” Joaquín said.

His contract at Betis expires in June 2022 and barring any surprises, he will retire at the end of the current campaign.

“It’s difficult. Personally, I think that finding the right time to retire from a profession that you’ve had since you were a little boy is very difficult. People tell me that I have to retire when I’m at the top, but then you want to keep going.”
