Former Atlético Madrid star João Félix has early this week opened up on his underwhelming stint on the books of the Rojiblancos. This comes amid the assurance that, despite his woes, the Portuguese does not regret taking his talents to Spain’s capital.
Frontman Félix for his part put pen to paper on terms with Atlético all the way back in 2019, for a club-record fee which stands strong to this day.
To say that the 26-year-old’s ensuing time in La Liga proved to be a disappointment, though, would be something of an understatement.
Despite showcasing flashes of his unquestionable brilliance, Félix failed to live up to his price-tag, inconsistent and at times downright infuriating to watch.
The Benfica youth product has since gone on to enjoy time on the books of the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan, and Barcelona. He is currently plying his club trade in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
Speaking during an interview with Diario AS (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) this week, though, Félix was asked to open up on his Metropolitano stint. And the 59-time capped Portugal international was honest in his response, explaning:
“I don’t regret my time at Atlético. I experienced some very beautiful and important moments there. It helped me mature. I don’t regret arriving in Madrid at such a young age at all.
“As I’ve always said, I never stopped trying to do my best for myself and the team. I tried to help whenever I could. Like everything in life, a player goes through ups and downs, although of course I would have liked to have had more positive moments than I had at Atlético.”
