Barcelona president Joan Laporta tonight issued a noteworthy response, after being asked by a member of the club’s fanbase to sign leading summer transfer target Nico Williams.
As much came in the buildup to Barcelona’s friendly meeting with AS Monaco.
The Blaugrana are of course fresh off bringing their pre-season schedule list to a close.
After welcoming Ligue 1 outfit Monaco to Catalunya’s capital for the latest edition of the Joan Gamper trophy, Hansi Flick’s troops were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 3-0 result.
As alluded to above, though, their side’s eventual defeat proved far from the only disappointing aspect of the evening’s developments for those of a Barcelona persuasion.
This comes with any remaining hopes of a deal for Athletic Club star Nico Williams, too, having been all but brought to an end.
On his way into Montjuïc on Monday, Joan Laporta was approached by a Barca supporter, who pleaded:
“Laporta, sign Nico!”
In his response, however, the Blaugrana president for the first time appeared to pour cold water on the links, in assuring that:
“We already have a good squad.”
