Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced his decision to run for the role of club president once again. The elections take place in January with the aim of appointing a new president to oversee the Catalan club, after the departure of former president Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this year.
On running for presidency
“I’m running for the elections because I love this club. We have the preparation, experience and determination necessary for the changes that the club needs. We have a plan in place.”
Laporta on Messi
“Messi loves Barça and I’m sure that the club can give him an opportunity. I see myself capable of, and at the right moment, having a conversation with him. I know we can give each other some margin, anything can happen in life.”
On Xavi Hernández
“I haven’t spoken to Xavi yet, but I respect him a lot. He should be a reference for all players and La Masia.”
