Speaking in an interview with AS, Sevilla captain, Jesús Navas, discussed being left out of Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for Euro 2020.
You have a new three-year contract that will end at the age of 39. How much time do you have left?
I don’t know when I’ll retire. At 40? If I can, beyond that. I focus on the day-to-day, the most important thing. If I could, I’d be playing football all day. I don’t set an age limit. I want it to be more than three years, many more. I enjoy every training session and I think I will continue to enjoy it.
Joaquín, your rival and friend, is going to play for Betis beyond the age of 40 for sure.
Joaquín has given and is giving a lot to football, he has tremendous quality. When he leaves it will be a shame. I see him as always, with great enthusiasm for this sport. Physically he feels great.
Did it hurt a lot not to go to the European Championship with Spain in the end?
Yes, it hurt a lot. It was very hard for me. I was really looking forward to it. Now I want to play at the World Cup in Qatar, I will always be at Luis Enrique’s disposal. I know that if I do well at Sevilla I can be in the national team squad.
