Covid-19 delays Raphaël Varane’s transfer to Manchester United

Raphaël Varane hopes to be able to travel to Manchester between Thursday and Friday of this week, before having to spend five days in quarantine, according to AS.

The agreement between Real Madrid and United for the transfer of Varane is in place. Everything has been finalised, except for the player’s signature, which is subject to a medical.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the deal could be delayed by almost a week. To begin with, it is still not clear whether the player will undergo a medical in Madrid or in Manchester. And secondly, he is obliged, according to British regulations, to spend five days in quarantine on entering England before he can join his new club.

The most likely scenario is that Varane will be able to travel to Manchester on Thursday at the earliest. Regarding the medical, there are also issues around it taking place in Madrid, which would shorten the process, due to the difficulty for English doctors to make the trip because of the coronavirus regulations.

Varane, who joined Real Madrid from Lens in 2011, will sign with Manchester United for four seasons with the option of an additional year.
