No agreement between NEC Nijmegen target Jasper Cillessen and Valencia

The head coach of the NEC Nijmegen, Rogier Meijer, says that there is no agreement between Valencia and Jasper Cillessen and his proposed move to the Dutch club may fall through.

“There is a conflict between the player, agent and Valencia over the details of the transfer,” he said in quotes picked up by Tribuna Deportiva.

Cillessen is expected to join the Dutch side this summer as Valencia look to reduce their wage bill and the La Liga club are confident that a deal will be done.

Since joining Valencia from Barcelona for €35 million in 2019, it has not been an easy ride for the shot-stopper, with injuries and form preventing him from becoming the club’s number one.

The 33-year-old left NEC in 2011 after a decade in their academy and went on to enjoy a successful career, playing for Ajax and Barcelona and making 63 appearances for the Netherlands.

His current deal at Mestalla runs until June 2023. Valencia’s 21-year-old netminder Giorgi Mamardashvili started for the club in last night’s friendly match against Atalanta and is set to be the number one for the upcoming season.
