Neymar Jr. has on Tuesday taken to social media, to send a public message of gratitude the way of former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.
This of course comes ahead of an emotional evening in waiting for the 39-year-old…
The football world is set to come to a collective stop in the coming hours, upon Messi taking to the pitch in the colours of his native Argentina for the very last time.
After a glittering international career, featuring over 200 appearances, 125 goals, the World Cup, a pair of Copa América titles and more, the veteran attacker will take to the pitch for the final time for the Albiceleste in a friendly meeting with Benin.
Messages of tribute, in turn, have already begun flooding in for the player whom most consider to be the greatest to ever pull on a pair of boots.
And as alluded to above, adding his name to this list on Tuesday evening was one of Messi’s best-ever teammates. Taking to his official Instagram account, Barcelona icon Neymar unveiled a photo of he and the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, accompanied by the following heartfelt caption:
“Anyone who loves football has enjoyed you throughout all these years…
“Today is your final game wearing the shirt of your national team, your country, and I hope you enjoy every second of it and that all the tributes today make you happy.
“It’s not only Argentina that thanks you, the whole world thanks you for everything you’ve done for football.
“Thank you for making me love football even more. It was an honor to have played against you, and even more so to have made history alongside you.
“THANK YOU, Leo Messi.”
