Iñaki Williams announces that he will play for Ghana

Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams has announced that he will now represent Ghana on the international stage.

The 28-year-old has already represented Spain. In 2016 he played for 30 minutes against Bosnia, his only appearance for La Roja.

Despite him having crossed the age limit to carry a switch of federations, FIFA have accepted Ghana’s request. Now, this means that he can not only represent the Black Stars in Qatar but also in AFCON.

Ghana is the motherland of the player and the Black Stars have been tracking Williams since his early playing days in Spain. That said, Ghana are also looking to incorporate Nico Williams into their team. This can be an easy process since the 19-year-old is yet to represent Spain through the senior team. He is already a U21 international with Spain.

It is clear that Ghana are looking to build a strike force by getting the two Williams brothers together. Iñaki Williams is not on Spain manager Luis Enrique’s radar for the upcoming World Cup.

Nico still has time to decide. However, with his brother now joining up with Ghana, one can only assume that he would decide to do the same as well.
