‘If all players were like him’ – Racially-abused Rayo Majadahonda star sends thank you to Vinícius

Rayo Majadahonda star Cheikh Sarr has on Monday moved to reveal his gratitude to Real Madrid attacker Vinícius Jr.

As much comes after the Brazilian sent a public message of support the way of Sarr over the weekend.

Shot-stopper Sarr, for his part, was unfortunately the latest victim of racially-motivated abuse in Spanish football on Saturday.

During the Primera Federación meeting between Sestao, and Rayo Majadahonda, the 23-year-old was targeted by a member of the Sestao fanbase.

Understandably incensed, Sarr went on to depart his goal, before grabbing a hold of the individual in question.

After his teammates rushed the scene to break the pair apart, the goalkeeper was shown a red card, with Rayo Majadahonda’s players having left the pitch in protest, culminating in the clash being suspended.

Post-match, messages of support flooded in for Sarr, the most high-profile of which came courtesy of the aforementioned Vinícius Jr.

Taking to his official social media platforms, the Real Madrid man spoke out in defence of all of the Senegalese, Sevilla manager Quique, and Nervionenses defender Marcos Acuña:

And, as alluded to above, as much did not go at all unappreciated on the part of Sarr himself.

Speaking in an interview with COPE on Monday evening, the Rayo star was questioned on Vinícius reaching out, and went on to reveal both his gratitude and admiration for the Brazilian’s ongoing efforts to fight racism:

“I’m with Vinícius till death. I am very proud of him. I thank him for supporting me and for fighting racism. He alone can’t do it. If all players of our skin color were like him, racism would end.”
