Iago Aspas: “I sometimes ask myself why I’m not in the national team.”

In an interview with El Larguero, Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas discussed being left out of the Spain squad by Luis Enrique, his future and Barcelona midfielder Nico González.

On the future

“I would like to be a sporting director but I still have two years of football left.”

On Xavi

“I like Xavi’s arrival at Barça. If he is half as good a coach as he was a footballer…”

On the best young players in Spain

“Of the young players now, I would go for Nico [González]. He is the type of player who is going to be one of the best in the future. He looks tremendous. His father was one of the best players in the history of Galicia, but Nico can be better.”

On the Spain national team

“Of course, I sometimes ask myself why I’m not in the national team. We all have a coach in us, and if I were the coach, I wouldn’t have called myself up for this international break but I would have taken myself to the Euros.”
