How Real Madrid’s ‘bad relations’ with La Liga spoiled title celebrations

An insight into how the relationship between Real Madrid and the La Liga brass cost the former what would have marked a memorable title celebration on Saturday has been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of Marca, and points towards all being far from well between the respective parties.

Real, of course, were officially named as the 2023/24 La Liga champions last night.

As much came after Barcelona failed to get the better of Girona, just hours on from Los Blancos making short work of Cádiz.

Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, in turn, enjoyed a relatively tame celebration amongst themselves, behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The club’s supporters, meanwhile, took to the streets, to kick their own separate festivities into gear.

And yet, had things been organised just a little differently, players and fans alike could so easily have been afforded the chance to celebrate together – as it should be.

Had La Liga altered the fixture schedule ever so slightly, to either bring Girona vs Barcelona forward, push Real Madrid vs Cádiz back, or both, Los Blancos would have been afforded what would no doubt have been a special evening at the Bernabéu.

So, why did as much fail to develop in the near-month since the date and times of the fixtures were announced?

As per the aforementioned Marca, the answer is simple – ‘bad relations’.

Tensions are understood to be at a high between Real Madrid and La Liga at present, with the latter having therefore made no conscious effort to accommodate what would have marked an altogether more sensible schedule.

Neither did the Blancos brass reach out to the federation, in an attempt to have their time slot altered.

A real shame, and one in which the real losers, of course, are the fans…
