The efforts of an up-and-coming member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona forced a shift in the approach of head coach Hansi Flick on the transfer market.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Marc Bernal as the player in question.
Youngster Bernal has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the chatter surrounding Barcelona heading into the new season.
As much comes with the Spaniard, at just 17 years of age, having showcased flashes of absolutely remarkable potential.
After shining in training, Bernal was rewarded by way of pre-season starts against both Manchester City and Real Madrid.
And, despite his tender years, and the quality of opposition, the gifted midfielder went on to hold his own, showcasing all of the traits of a quality ‘6’ in the making.
So much so that, as alluded to above, Bernal managed to force a change in strategy on the part of his new manager.
Hansi Flick, prior to his arrival in Barcelona, is understood to have been adamant that his squad was in need of reinforcements at the base of midfield.
However, as per Diario Sport:
‘Flick started the pre-season with the idea of looking for a ‘6’ in the market, but Marc Bernal’s performance on the American tour has made him change his mind.’
Though he is unlikely to be a starter, at least for the time being, expect to see plenty of Bernal in Blaugrana colours over the course of the season ahead.
