‘He was just one more’ – When Kylian Mbappé played for Real Madrid in 2012

Real Madrid-bound Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé actually lined out for the Spanish giants on a previous occasion, during his youth.

As much has today been confirmed by Relevo, who have provided a fascinating insight into the situation.

It is of course common knowledge that frontman Mbappé is all set to take his talents to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer, upon the conclusion of his contract with the aforementioned PSG.

Excitement, in turn, has long begun to mount amongst the Real Madrid faithful, ahead of seeing yet another of world football’s standout performers pull on the famed shirt of their beloved club.

Such supporters, though, may be interested to hear that, in fact, Mbappé already did as much, over a decade ago.

As per the aforementioned Relevo, the now-25-year-old made his way to Los Merengues’ Valdebebas training base back in December of 2012, at just 14 years of age.

This came owing to a direct invitation from Real Madrid, whose academy setup was at the time being overseen by Zinedine Zidane.

Mbappé went on to feature in an outing against Fuenlabrada, with his teammates on the day having included the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Marcos Llorente, and Luca Zidane.

Javier Belman, who was between the posts for opponents Fuenlabrada, though, admits that his lasting memory of the occasion was seeing one of the game’s all-time greats on the sidelines:

“The truth is that I only remember seeing Zidane watching the game. But nothing about Mbappé. I played with him but I don’t remember anything.”

Juan Ángel Barea, who lined out alongside Real’s soon-to-be Galactico in the fixture, recalls Mbappé, unsurprisingly, as having boasted explosive speed:

“He was a very fast boy. It is impressive to know that you have shared a locker room with him.”

But Barea also went on to admit that:

“He was just one more. You can’t imagine the number of children who came to try out and train.”

Safe to say, Mbappé’s impression the 2nd time round in Madrid is likely to be a whole lot more noteworthy…
