Girona top scorer Artem Dovbyk’s status for Real Madrid showdown confirmed

An update on the wellbeing of Girona striker Artem Dovbyk has come to the fore online this evening.

The info comes by way of Mundo Deportivo, who point towards positive news for all associated with high-flying Girona.

Míchel’s troops, of course, are currently being put through early preparations for what is set to come as their biggest fixture of the season to date.

This comes as the Catalans prepare to make the daunting trip to the Santiago Bernabéu, for a top-of-the-table showdown with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

Should Girona ultimately emerge triumphant, they will leapfrog Los Blancos back to the summit of La Liga.

In the case of a defeat, however, they will slip a full five points off the title pace, and risk being drawn in by 3rd-placed Barcelona.

With all of Míchel, Daley Blind and Yangel Herrera already suspended for the capital clash, the Girona faithful were no doubt desperate for some positive news on the personnel front.

And, on Tuesday, precisely that has been forthcoming.

As per the aforementioned MD, Artem Dovbyk will return to matchday duties in Madrid on Saturday.

Frontman Dovbyk – his side’s top scorer with 14 La Liga goals this season – was forced to sit out the club’s meeting with Real Sociedad at the weekend, owing to a knee problem.

And his absence was harshly felt, en route to an eventual goalless stalemate.

The Ukrainian, though, is now well on the road to recovery, with any form of serious injury having been ruled out.

The question now becomes, will he be risked from the off by Míchel and his staff at the Bernabéu?
