Barcelona boss Xavi lays down challenge to Pedri for remainder of season

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has issued something of a challenge to midfield star Pedri, with a view to the remainder of the campaign.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Tuesday provided a fresh insight into ongoings behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Xavi, it is claimed, views Pedri as his most important figure in the middle of the park.

The Spanish tactician considers him Barca’s most influential player ‘between the lines’, with Pedri’s positional understanding also held in extremely high regard.

And yet, more has been demanded of the 21-year-old over the coming weeks and months.

That’s according to MD, who have today revealed that Xavi has challenged Pedri to bump up his goal and assist numbers moving forward.

The pair recently sat down for a video analysis session, during which Barca’s headmaster encouraged his midfield maestro to be more courageous in the final third.

Pedri, for his part, has racked up two goals and three assists across all competitions this season, after managing seven and one during the 2022/23 term.

He will likely need to, at the very least, double this haul by the summer, to satisfy the demands of his soon-to-be former head coach.
