Girona: Ins, outs and possible starting XI for 2022-23 season

Newly-promoted Girona have made some exciting signings ahead of the 2022-23 season, as they aim to stay put in the top flight after a three-year absence.

The majority ownership of the City Football Group has been the defining influence behind a lot of the club’s activity this summer. Venezuelan central midfielder Yangel Herrera has joined them from Manchester City in what will be his fourth successive loan spell in La Liga. 20-year-old Brazilian right-back Yan Couto has re-joined Girona on loan from the Premier League champions, having played for them previously in the 2020-21 campaign.

Argentine forward Valentín Castellanos, who bagged 17 goals in 25 games for New York City FC last season, has also signed on loan.

Girona have also bolstered the backline with the free transfer of David López from Espanyol, as well as the signing of left-back Miguel Gutiérrez from Real Madrid for €4m. Young winger Rodrigo Riquelme has also been signed on loan from Atlético Madrid.
