Getafe star to miss the entire season through injury

La Liga outfit Getafe have this week been dealt nothing short of a hammer blow on the personnel front. This comes amid confirmation that the Azulones will not be able to count on midfield star Christantus Uche for the season ahead.

Versatile midfielder/attacker Uche for his part returned to base in Madrid this summer, following a disappointing year plying his trade on loan with Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

The Nigerian had in turn since been reintegrated into José Bordalás’ first-team ranks. On Thursday, Uche played his part in Getafe’s latest pre-season friendly, against French outfit AS Monaco.

En route to an eventual 1-0 defeat, however, the 23-year-old was stretchered off amid alarming scenes. Following a dangerous challenge on the part of Monaco’s Christian Mawissa, Uche could immediately be seen to be in serious distress.

And an ensuing round of medical tests have only served to confirm that the fears of the former Ceuta talent were fully justified.

As per a report from journalist Álvaro Ramos of Diario AS:

‘Uche is out for the entire season. The medical tests carried out on the Getafe footballer have confirmed the worst. He has several tears inside the knee (ligaments, meniscus). He will undergo surgery and will not be available for the entire year.’
