Frenkie de Jong’s agent dismisses reports of Barcelona midfielder faking illness

The agent of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has moved to definitively shut down surprise claims surrounding his client across the media over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after reports spread, suggesting that the Dutch international had faked an illness, to sit out Barcelona’s Champions League defeat at the hands of Royal Antwerp.

It was even claimed that Blaugrana sporting director Deco had made contact with De Jong, to make his frustrations known.

Speaking to De Telegraaf this evening, the subject of the concerning speculation surrounding his client was therefore put to Ali Dursun, the midfielder’s representative.

And Dursun was unwavering in his response.

Slamming the reports as ‘fake news’, he assured that De Jong is ‘simply sick’:

“It’s complete fake news. It’s the biggest nonsense that has been circulated about Frenkie in a long time. The player is simply sick. He has flu symptoms and was not able to travel and play.”
