Frenkie de Jong hands Barcelona a timely boost

Xavi Hernández’s Barcelona have been afforded an altogether timely boost on the personnel front.

The subject of injury woes has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after Barca were dealt a hefty blow, upon Gavi picking up a serious knee injury whilst on international duty with Spain.

The 19-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, after tearing his ACL, and damaging the meniscus in his right knee.

Safe to say, then, that all associated with Barcelona were no doubt desperate for some positive news when it comes to Xavi’s squad.

And, as alluded to above, precisely that was today confirmed at the Blaugrana’s Ciutat Esportiva training ground.

As per journalist Alfredo Martínez, amongst others, Frenkie de Jong has rejoined his teammates in full training.

De Jong has been sidelined since all the way back in September owing to an ankle issue, but looks set for an imminent return to the pitch.

With Gavi now ruled out, the Dutchman will therefore add to Xavi’s engine room options in timely fashion.
