FC Barcelona engage in discussion for Antonio Rüdiger transfer

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that FC Barcelona may be edging towards a transfer for Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger.

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona’s sporting director Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff met with Rüdiger’s agent and half-brother, Sahr Senesie, to discuss a potential transfer for the German. The three gentlemen met at the Catalan 5-star luxury hotel “The Barcelona Edition”, and were engaged in a positive discussion, which lasted nearly three hours.

Rüdiger has made 42 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season. His contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the current season, and Barça have been touted as one of his possible next destinations.

Barcelona are expected to face stiff competition from Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus for Rüdiger’s signature. However, Barça’s recent thumping 4-0 El Clásico win has reportedly also encouraged the German’s choice in joining the Catalan side.

Barça have also agreed to sign Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
