Diego Simeone: “We need a striker and will look for what we can get.”

Speaking to Cadena COPE after Atlético Madrid’s 1-0 win over Elche on Sunday, Diego Simeone admitted that his side needs a striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

On the win over Elche

“In the second half we started in the same way, we had the chance with Carrasco, who could have settled the game. From then on 1-0 is a tight lead, you don’t suffer but the 1-0 leaves you with that feeling of danger.”

“The preparation for this season has not been easy, especially for us because we had the most players on international duty. The idea was to have closed out a game where they didn’t create scoring chances but we couldn’t finish it off either,” Simeone explained.

On signing a striker

The head coach admitted that they are keeping an eye on the market in search of a striker. “As for the striker, we try to have two players for each position, we need a player, we will look for what we can get and if not we will find a solution,” he concluded.

Atlético have been linked with a move for Hertha Berlin and Brazil forward Matheus Cunha.
