Jordi Alba becomes second Barcelona captain to accept considerable pay cut

Jordi Alba has become the second Barcelona captain to accept a considerable pay cut, according to journalist Ferran Correas.

The news follows Gerard Piqué’s salary cut to allow three new Barcelona signings to register with La Liga before the starting of the new 2021/22 season.

It is possible that the club’s two other captains Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto will also take a pay cut to help reduce the club’s debt, which currently sits at €1.35 billion, according to club president Joan Laporta.

Mundo Deportivo report that Alba has lowered his salary by 25% and has also postponed part of the payment of his wages until 2024.

Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto (with a contract extension) will also take pay cuts over the coming days.
