Diego Simeone provides Antoine Griezmann injury update after Atlético’s defeat to Inter

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has this evening provided an update on the wellbeing of star attacker Antoine Griezmann.

As much comes after Griezmann set alarm bells ringing in Spain’s capital a short time ago.

En route to Atlético’s eventual 1-0 Champions League Last-16 first leg defeat at the hands of Inter Milan, the France international was forced into a premature departure from the action.

Inside the closing quarter of an hour at San Siro, Griezmann pulled up, with what appeared to be an ankle problem.

The 32-year-old, in turn, was quickly hauled off, with Ángel Correa introduced in his place.

Ahead of a crucial upcoming run of fixtures, including the 2nd leg of the club’s Copa del Rey semi-final tie with Athletic Club next week, Diego Simeone was therefore inevitably asked for an update on Griezmann’s wellbeing post-match.

And, in a boost for the Rojiblancos faithful, the Argentine tactician went on to reveal his ‘hope’ that the issue will ultimately prove to be ‘nothing serious’:

“Antoine Griezmann’s injury was an ankle twist. The ankle is resilient, so it’s nothing serious. I hope it’s not worrisome.”
