Diego Simeone provides Antoine Griezmann fitness update before Inter & Barcelona

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has on Friday provided an update on the wellbeing of star attacker Antoine Griezmann.

Frontman Griezmann has of course spent the last couple of weeks on the sidelines, owing to an ankle injury suffered in the first leg of Atlético’s Champions League Last-16 tie with Serie A table-toppers Inter Milan.

The France international was forced to sit out each of his side’s last three outings across all competitions as a result.

Speaking to the media earlier today, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Griezmann’s potential return was put to boss Simeone once more.

As much comes ahead of an absolutely crucial week for the Rojiblancos, which will see them face off with all of Cádiz, Inter Milan (2nd leg), and Barcelona.

And though he has been ruled out on Saturday against Cádiz, Griezmann could yet return to fitness in time for Atléti’s showdown with Inter, as the capital giants set about overturning a 1-0 deficit at the Wanda Metropolitano:

“He will not be available for tomorrow,” Simeone began. “We do not know if he will arrive for the match against Inter and if he does not get back in time, he will probably play against Barcelona.”
