Speaking to Movistar after Atlético Madrid won LaLiga on Saturday evening, an emotional Diego Simeone gave his thoughts on a difficult year for everyone.
“I’m happy for a lot of people. It has been such a difficult year, people have died, fans of this club have died, fans of other teams have died. This year, it’s different, it’s always difficult for Atlético and to win a league this year above all years is special. This is the year to do it.
“We want to make people happy, people who have suffered so much. We have 32 players here, and I have huge respect for all of them especially for those who have played less.
“The first thing that is coming to me right now is a smile. That is what comes. I remember once leaving the Vicente Calderón, and people asked me if I was going to stay and I said yes that the club had a future and yes I was right, the club has a great future.
“The club is still growing. We have done huge work. There is stability here and an opportunity to keep developing. I knew that the club would keep growing.”
