David de Gea’s contract at Manchester United expires at midnight tonight. The Spanish shot-stopper will become a free agent as United make an approach for Inter Milan goalkeeper André Onana.
Onana, 27, has emerged as United’s favourite to replace De Gea, who has reached the end of his contract at Old Trafford. De Gea, who has been at the club since 2011, had been set to sign an extension on reduced terms, but United pulled that deal before reducing their offer on wages again.
De Gea is understood to be unhappy and appears to be on his way out of the Premier League club. Onana has been part of the Inter side that won the Coppa Italia and spent five years under United head coach Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, United will make an offer for Onana today. The Old Trafford outfit have already been in talks with Onana’s representatives about a possible move.
This move could see De Gea’s 12-year spell at United come to an end.
