Cristiano Ronaldo would love to return to Madrid

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea is no longer a viable option but the veteran forward would love to return to Madrid.

The club that approached Ronaldo the most over the summer was Chelsea. Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes had reached an agreement in principle with the Blues’ new American owner, Todd Boehly, who was fascinated by the idea of signing a star player like Ronaldo. But it was Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s manager at the time, who put the brakes on the deal.

The idea of a return to Madrid suits the Portugal international for personal reasons, because he has several businesses in the Spanish capital, but if you look into Diego Simeone’s statements regarding the possible signing, you would have to rule out Atlético Madrid.

“People sometimes say what they would like to happen. Cristiano is an absolute reference for Real Madrid, I would never see Martin Palermo at River, for example. The situation seems pretty clear to me,” Simeone said when discussing the potential signing of Ronaldo.

Ronaldo rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia, because he wants to stay in Europe, with the ambition to win the Champions League again.

Throughout the summer, Mendes tried to find the United player a club, and discussed a move with Bayern Munich, Atlético and Napoli, but failed to find a new destination for his client and friend. It remains to be seen where Ronaldo goes, but one thing is for sure, he has never been so close to leaving Manchester United for the second time.
