Uncertainty is mounting at La Liga giants Barcelona, when it comes to the future of a leading member of the club’s backline.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Ronald Araújo as the player in question.
The Barcelona brass, for their part, are eager to open negotiations with Araújo and his entourage, over the terms of a new contract with the club.
This comes ahead of the expiration of the Uruguayan international’s current deal in the summer of 2026.
To date, however, the Blaugrana have been unable to pencil the desired sit-down into their calendar.
As much comes amid claims that Araújo’s representatives have begun ‘dragging their feet’, purposely avoiding talks with Deco and co.
Many at Barcelona have been left ‘confused’ by these actions, though others suspect that they come against the backdrop of outside interest, most likely from Bayern Munich.
Ready to delay negotiations for as long as possible to essentially force the hand of the Camp Nou hierarchy when it comes to financial demands, the behaviour of Araújo’s team, it is claimed, ‘is beginning to eat away at the club’s executives’.
With the Xavi ‘transfer list’ debacle still firmly in mind, too, the future of Barca’s defensive stalwart is in turn considered as up in the air at this moment in time.
