Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has this evening provided his take on the officiating which led to his side’s last-gasp victory over Almería.
Real, of course, were involved in one of the more controversial outings of the La Liga campaign late on Sunday.
After welcoming bottom-of-the-table Almería to Spain’s capital, Los Blancos found themselves heading into the interval in a shock two-goal hole.
2nd-half goals on the part of all of Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr. and Dani Carvajal, though, ensured that the evening’s hosts ultimately emerged on the right side of a 3-2 result.
And yet, post-match, Ancelotti’s troops have found themselves under heavy fire, by way of fans, neutrals, and the media alike.
This comes amid widespread agreement that Real were the beneficiaries of some altogether one-sided officiating at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Over the course of the 2nd-half, a trio of major decisions went in favour of the capital giants – a penalty call, disallowed Almería 3rd, and the overturning of Vinícius’ disallowed goal.
Not only that, but the hosts were afforded a full 11 minutes of injury-time to find their eventual winner, too.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his side’s good fortune was put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian tactician, though, was in defiant mood, adamant that the officials involved made all three major calls correctly:
“Three quite clear decisions,” Ancelotti began, as cited by Sport. “They have been reviewed correctly in the VAR .”
