Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi responds to Barcelona links

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi has this afternoon provided an update on his future.

As much, of course, comes amid widespread speculation surrounding the name of the Italian tactician.

De Zerbi is understood to have been identified as a leading target to take up the reins from the departing Xavi at La Liga giants Barcelona this summer.

In fact, numerous outlets have gone as far as to point towards the former Shakhtar Donetsk boss as the favoured candidate of a whole host of key figures behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

De Zerbi, for his part, is appreciated for his fluid brand of football, with word in the media just yesterday having pointed towards his name as being pushed for the Blaugrana bench by none other than club icon Pep Guardiola.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future, and Barcelona’s alleged interest, was put to Brighton’s boss himself.

De Zerbi, however, was unsurprisingly keen to keep his cards close to his chest, adamant that, for the time being, his focus remains solely on matters on England’s south coast:

“I have only Brighton in my head. I have decided nothing and I’m under contract here. I’d like to finish the season in the best way with our young players. My focus is on Brighton, 100%.”
