Borja Iglesias refuses to represent Spain amid Luis Rubiales controversy

Real Betis and Spain striker Borja Iglesias has decided not to represent Spain with Luis Rubiales in his current role as president of the Spanish FA.

“I am sad and disappointed. As a footballer and as a person I don’t feel represented by what happened today at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas. I find it regrettable that they continue to pressure and put the spotlight on a team-mate. Wearing the Spanish national team shirt is the greatest thing that has happened to me in my career,” he wrote on social media on Friday.

“I don’t know if at some point I will be an option [for Spain] again, but I have made the decision not to return to the national team until things change and these types of acts don’t go unpunished.”

Borja Iglesias, 30, made his debut for Spain on September 24, 2022 and has two caps for La Roja.
