Several Spain players have shown their support for their team-mate Jenni Hermoso.
“This is unacceptable. It’s over. We are with you,” wrote Alexia Putellas, Barcelona and Spain midfielder, after Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales announced on Friday that he would not resign from his role.
The two-time Ballon d’Or winner was part of the Spain team that won the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Rubiales criticised for kiss at World Cup final
Rubiales has faced criticism and calls to step down after kissing Hermoso during the World Cup final ceremony in Sydney on Sunday, but the 46-year-old head of the Spanish FA believes he has done nothing wrong.
Fellow Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí said: “There are lines that cannot be crossed and we cannot tolerate this. We are with you.”
Patri Guijarro wrote: “It’s over. With you Jenni Hermoso.”
Athenea del Castillo showed her support by saying: “We are with you Jenni!”
Barcelona defender Mapi León wrote: “It has not taken much time to see that what was demanded a few months ago was not a simple tantrum. The images speak for themselves and it is unacceptable. For all women, with you Jenni Hermoso.”
