Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski sends message of support to Real Madrid defender David Alaba

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has put rivalries aside, to send a message of support to Real Madrid defender David Alaba.

The name of stopper Alaba has of course taken its place centre stage in the Spanish media headlines over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes, unfortunately, after the Austrian was ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury.

After being forced into a premature departure from Real Madrid’s La Liga victory over Villarreal, ensuing medical scans revealed that Alaba had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

He joins Thibaut Courtois and Éder Militão as the third member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad to have been sidelined with an ACL blow this season.

On the back of the extent of his injury being confirmed, messages of support have since flooded in for Alaba, with his Real teammates having been amongst the first to wish the 31-year-old all the best in his recovery.

As alluded to above, though, another such message was forthcoming, from the other side of the Clásico divide.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Barcelona frontman Robert Lewandowski posted a photo of himself and Alaba embracing, in their respective club colours.

Alongside the picture, meanwhile, was a simple caption, with the Pole having urged his former Bayern Munich teammate to ‘stay strong’.
