New Barcelona signing Gabriel Jesus has admitted that he agreed to a reduction in his wage packet, to seal a dream move to the Spotify Camp Nou from Arsenal.
Frontman Jesus has of course dominated the headlines surrounding Barcelona over the course of the day to date. Ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline in Spain, the 29-year-old was officially unveiled as the latest addition to Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana squad.
After missing out on chief target Julián Alvarez, Deco and the Camp Nou brass identified Jesus as the ideal cut-price backup signing.
After undergoing his medicals and putting pen to paper on a contract through 2029 in Catalunya’s capital, the Brazilian international in turn took his place in front of the media as a Barca player for the first time on Tuesday evening.
And it was during this exchange that Jesus confirmed that linking up with Hansi Flick’s side was not even remotely influenced by financial factors:
“I’ve taken a pay cut to be here, but for me the important thing is to be able to play for Barça. It’s a possibility I wasn’t expecting a month ago. For me, it’s a matter of God.”
