An insight into the long-standing interest of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona in the services of Liverpool head coach Jürgen Klopp has been forthcoming this evening.
This, of course, comes fresh off a bombshell announcement on the part of the German tactician.
In a heartfelt statement across Liverpool’s website and social platforms, Klopp revealed that he has come to the decision to leave Anfield behind upon the season’s close.
Citing an understandable lack of energy as he approaches ten years in the all-action Premier League, the former Borussia Dortmund boss will see his contract terminated come the summer.
And, despite Klopp having made clear that he intends to take a year out from football, speculation surrounding his likeliest future landing spot has nevertheless continued to spread like wildfire.
One such club in Spain tipped to bring the 56-year-old in, meanwhile, come in the form of the aforementioned Barcelona.
The subject of the hotseat in Catalunya’s capital has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines for some time now.
This comes as pressure continues to mount on the shoulders of under-performing Blaugrana boss Xavi.
So, where exactly do the Barca brass stand on the possibility of bringing Klopp in to replace the club’s former midfielder?
Well, an insight into as much has this evening been provided.
The info comes courtesy of Diario Sport, who have confirmed that Joan Laporta is a long-term admirer of the soon-to-be ex-Liverpool manager.
In fact, the Barcelona president previously expressed that his ‘dream’ was to one day bring Klopp to the club.
As things stand, the summer is likely to come too soon for a joining of forces, owing chiefly to Klopp’s insistence on taking a sabbatical.
However, should the German open to a swift return to the game, his name will find itself ‘very present’ in the boardroom at the Camp Nou.
