The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona came up short in a winter swoop for a member of the midfield ranks at Manchester United.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has today provided an insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
It is of course common knowledge that Deco and the transfer team at Barcelona set their sights firmly on reinforcements at the base of Xavi’s midfield with a view to the 2nd half of the season.
This came amid the ongoing struggles of summer arrival Oriol Romeu to make the position his own.
A whole host of deals, in turn, were explored on the part of the Blaugrana, with an insight into one such potential transfer, on Friday, having been provided.
The info comes courtesy of the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed that Deco and co. made contact with both Fiorentina and Manchester United, regarding a potential deal for Sofyan Amrabat.
Moroccan international Amrabat, for his part, is currently in the midst of a season-long loan at Old Trafford, from Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Amid what has proven a largely underwhelming stint for a player possessing unquestionable talent, however, Barca explored the possibility of Amrabat’s current loan being cut short, to thrash out a temporary agreement of their own.
Italian giants Juventus, meanwhile, sought out a similar deal, too.
In the end, however, it was made clear that as much was simply not on the cards, with Amrabat, in turn, having stayed put in Manchester for the remainder of the term.
