Barcelona youngster makes history on the international stage

An up-and-coming member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona this week secured for himself a piece of international football history.

The player in question? Áron Yaakobishvili.

Yaakobishvili, nicknamed ‘Yaako’, is a 20-year-old shot-stopper who has been on Barcelona’s books since all the way back in 2018.

The starlet spent this past season out on loan with in Spain’s 2nd tier with FC Andorra, continuing to build on his reputation as a future star in the making.

So much so that Yaakobishvili was recently afforded a maiden senior national team call-up on the part of his native Hungary.

And this weekend, this development gave rise to a historic appearance for the Barcelona man on the international stage. After featuring off the bench in a 2-1 victory over Finland, Yaakobishvili became the youngest goalkeeper to ever take to the pitch for Hungary at senior level.

Speaking to the media post-match at the Puskás Aréna, the youngster went on to explain:

“This is a dream come true. It’s every kid’s dream to play in the Puskás Aréna.”
