Barcelona want Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich

Barcelona are keen to sign Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, report Mundo Deportivo.

It has been no secret that the Catalan outfit are in the market for a new right-back. They currently only have one natural player in that position in the form of Héctor Bellerín, who has been struggling with injuries since his arrival last summer.

Barcelona have identified Pavard as a potential solution to their shortcomings on their right defensive flank. The 26-year-old is contracted with Bayern Munich until 2024 and there are no signs of renewal talks taking place.

However, Pavard’s desire not to play right-back is the very reason why he might not end up joining Barça. In an interview with La Gazzetta, he revealed he wants to find a club where he can play as a central defender:

“I’ve been playing in Germany for seven years. I won everything with Bayern Munich. I play football to win and I’m ready to consider new interesting projects, but as a centre-back.”
