A leading summer transfer target on the part of La Liga giants Barcelona is actively rejecting the interest of other suitors in his signature.
This comes amid a conscious effort to make his Blaugrana-shaped wishes come true.
The player in question? Nico Williams.
It is of course common knowledge at this point that wide-man Williams has made his way to the very top of the transfer wishlist of Barcelona.
The Athletic Club star is considered the ideal profile to reinforce new manager Hansi Flick’s frontline, rounding out a star-studded attacking trident also featuring the talents of both Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski.
The Catalans, however, face a pair of problems.
First off, their ongoing financial issues make a deal, at present, impossible. And on top of that, Williams’ brilliance at the European Championships has only seen interest in his signature mount.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, though, then those of a Barcelona persuasion, for the time being at least, need not fret.
As per a report from Blaugrana insider Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport:
‘The Athletic winger is waiting for Barca’s move and is freezing interest from other clubs for now.’
It is also noted that Williams will not wait for Deco and co. to make their move indefinitely, however, eager to both sort his future as soon as possible, and not leave Athletic Club in a difficult position when it comes to sourcing a replacement.
The ball, as a result, is considered as being very much in Barcelona’s court.
