The nickname afforded to Barcelona star Andreas Christensen by his teammates on the training ground has this week been revealed.
This comes amid the understanding that the Dane has built for himself a reputation as nothing short of a ‘phenomenon’.
Stopper Christensen is of course best known for his time in Barcelona colours for his lack of availability. Owing to a long string of injury problems, the former Chelsea man has at times been little more than an afterthought, overshadowed by his more high-profile teammates.
And yet, when fit and available for selection, Christensen, for the most part, has impressed, a solid performer at the heart of the Blaugrana’s backline.
So much so that the 30-year-old has earned for himself an altogether significant nickname amongst the rest of Hansi Flick’s squad…
As per a report from Cadena SER:
‘In training, everyone is amazed at Christensen’s level, and say: “He’s Beckenbauer.” If you talk to any player, ask him about Christensen, and they’ll say that he’s a phenomenon.’
