A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is in line for an altogether more prominent role at international level moving forward.
As much was announced on Monday, and surrounds Marc-André ter Stegen.
The subject of the situation between the posts has of course proven a headline talking point when it comes to the German national team for several weeks now.
This comes after long-time no.1 Manuel Neuer announced his decision to call time on his legendary international career.
Long acting as backup to Die Mannschaft’s first-choice, the widespread assumption, in turn, was that the aforementioned Marc-André ter Stegen would be rewarded, by way of a step up to first-choice duties.
Speaking to the media in a press conference on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of as much was put to Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann.
And the tactician went on to confirm that:
“Ter Stegen is the new number one in goal. He is captain of Barça and is undisputed there. The same is true here with us.”
