Barcelona star Pau Cubarsí was the recipient of a well-earned award in the aftermath of Sunday’s World Cup final.
Cubarsí’s Spain were of course back in action on the grandest stage in all of football yesterday evening. After making short work of France in the competition’s semi-finals, La Roja went toe-to-toe with Argentina in the World Cup’s showpiece fixture.
And when all was said and done, Luis de la Fuente’s troops emerged deserved victors, thanking a solitary Ferran Torres strike for a 1-0 result.
The aforementioned Cubarsí for his part featured from the off in New York, and put in another close to flawless display from his berth at the heart of defence.
The 19-year-old has been nothing short of a rock for his country this summer, en route to Spain conceding just a solitary goal across eight outings.
And as alluded to above, following the full-time whistle on Sunday, these exploits were recognised by none other than FIFA.
Cubarsí has been named Young Player of the Tournament for the 2026 World Cup, a prestigious prize in a potentially historic career in the making.
