Barcelona defender Jules Koundé is seemingly taking a different approach to pre-season to what is normal for professional footballers.
Normally, footballers value their off-season, which gives them a vital opportunity to unwind, spend time with loved ones and generally rest up ahead of the season to come.
25-year-old Koundé has a different idea, however. Following his elimination from Euro 2024 with France he has been pushing for as quick a return as possible instead of taking a summer break.
As per Diario AS, the Frenchman met with Hansi Flick to request his early return to the squad, a request which was granted as he now joins Barcelona’s US tour five days earlier than planned.
This situation demonstrates impressive initiative on the part of Koundé, in a display of dedication which is sure to impress fans of the Catalan giants.
The injury of Ronald Araújo could provide a unique opportunity for Koundé to return to his natural central position, after spending time at right-back in recent times.
Barcelona have a mammoth clash with Real Madrid at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on the horizon as they continue their preparation for the upcoming season. Still, it remains to be seen what role Koundé could play, having only returned to the squad.
