24-year-old João Félix finds himself in a strange situation at Atlético Madrid. He is seemingly not in the picture and a departure from the Spanish capital appears inevitable.
As per Diario SPORT, a new destination has arisen amongst the rumours regarding Félix’s future, with a return to the Premier League on the table.
The club in question is Aston Villa, with Unai Emery reportedly a keen admirer of the attacker. A move to the Birmingham-based side would see Félix become the club’s highest-paid player.
It is unlikely the Portuguese star would be able to command the same high wages he is on in Spain, however, as he would likely have to take a big step down from his current wages of almost €300,000 per week.
With Villa playing in the Champions League next season, the move could also prove desirable for the player as he looks to revive his career which has somewhat stalled in recent years.
A return to Barcelona isn’t necessarily off the table yet either, but a return to the Catalan capital would only take place with a loan deal rather than a transfer.
The development of this transfer saga is one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks, as there are plenty of ways the situation could play out.
