Barcelona star Raphinha has on Saturday evening secured for himself a piece of recent Spanish football history. This comes owing to his exploits in the Blaugrana’s latest outing.
Hansi Flick’s troops are currently locked in action on the domestic front, in a La Liga meeting with Sevilla.
Barca headed into proceedings with sights on a 7th successive victory to open the defence of their league title, but fell into an early deficit upon Youssouf Fofana putting hosts Sevilla in front.
The visitors, however, were not behind for long…
Continuing what has been nothing short of a spectacular open to the new season, the aforementioned Raphinha burst in behind the Sevilla backline, before leaving a defender for dead, and picking out the far corner in style.
And as alluded to above, owing to as much, the Brazilian added his name to an altogether exclusive club. As revealed by statisticians Opta:
‘Raphinha has scored 10 goals in LaLiga 2026/27, becoming the third player to reach this figure after his team’s first seven matches in a season of the competition in the 21st century. The other two are: Lionel Messi, in the 2011/12 (10) and 2017/18 (11) seasons, and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2014/15 (13).’
